# Dropbox and Network Drives

So you want to sync a network drive to Dropbox?

Don't do this. There a bunch of really good reasons to not do this and a bunch of better tools to achieve the same outcome. But, if like me recently, you absolutely have to set this up for a user you can use a symbolic link pointing at a UNC path to sync a folder in a network drive to a Dropbox account.

Folder example in PowerShell:

New-Item -ItemType SymbolicLink -Name folder -Target \\unc\path\to\folder

File Example in PowerShell:

New-Item -ItemType SymbolicLink -Name SYMfoo.txt -Target \\unc\path\to\file.txt

Dropbox observes the symbolic link correctly. I am not responsible for any data loss caused by doing this :P
